This is because if the dog is given a \u201ccue\u201d then she makes a choice; she is not forced to follow a \u201ccommand\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have a goal in mind.\u00a0 Work towards that goal.\u00a0 Be adaptable.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dog should be enthusiastic which shows you she is having fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will make mistakes in the training session.&nbsp; Learn from them and move on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Give the dog time to work it out before you intervene but don\u2019t let her get stuck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No verbal cue is given at the beginning of the training.&nbsp; She does not speak English so it would be confusing if she were given an untrained verbal cue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGood girl\u201d is used as positive feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep training sessions short.\u00a0 Five minutes is a good ballpark figure.\u00a0 If the dog starts to get bored or frustrated then end the session sooner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Video method<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These videos are raw and <strong>unedited <\/strong>so you see the real training in <strong>real time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Training sessions of a dog learning to go into a crate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Session one<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pickle - Learning to go into a crate - Session one\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jIIi9Dedu1A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>Pickle &#8211; Learning to go into a crate &#8211; Session one<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Have a comfy bed in the crate.<\/li><li>The crate should be a positive place to be so don\u2019t force her into it.<\/li><li>Throw a treat into the crate.\u00a0 Let her get it and come out again if she wants to.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t stand in front of the door or you may be blocking her.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t stand too far away from the crate since this may make it more difficult for her.<\/li><li>It may help to place the treat near the back of the crate to encourage her in.<\/li><li>Note at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jIIi9Dedu1A?t=212\" target=\"_blank\">3:32<\/a> she gets fully into the crate for the first time so she receives feedback of  \u201cgood girl\u201d for this success.<\/li><li>When the dog stays in the crate keep dropping treats in to maintain this behaviour.<\/li><li>You may need to call her out of the crate so she can then practice going back in again.<\/li><li>Notice how her enthusiasm builds as the session progresses.<\/li><li>The session is ended with \u201cOK\u201d.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Session two<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pickle - Learning to go into a crate - Session two\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jUId84yMmaI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>Pickle &#8211; Learning to go into a crate &#8211; Session two<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Give the dog a break between sessions.<\/li><li>You may need to go back a step or two when starting a new session but you should now get quicker progress.<\/li><li>Note at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jUId84yMmaI?t=39\" target=\"_blank\">0:39<\/a> she gets fully into the crate.\u00a0 In the first session she did not do this until <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jIIi9Dedu1A?t=212\" target=\"_blank\">3:32<\/a>.<\/li><li>Note at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jUId84yMmaI\" target=\"_blank\">0:54<\/a> I pretend to throw the treat into the crate.\u00a0 She is then given the treat after going into the crate.\u00a0 This is the transition from the treat being used as a lure to the treat being a consequence of the behaviour.<\/li><li>The visual cue (hand signal) to go into the crate is me pointing at the crate.<\/li><li>The verbal cue of \u201chouse\u201d is then added as she enters the crate.<\/li><li>Distance is now added with me being further away when the visual cue is given.<\/li><li>The visual cue for \u201cdown\u201d is now added.<\/li><li>Variation is now added with the me being in different parts of the room when the visual or verbal cue is given.<\/li><li>The session is ended with \u201cOK\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pickle &#8211;
