About Rainbow Dogs

Rainbow Dogs was founded by Mike Garner in London in 2003. I moved to Brighton & Hove, Sussex in 2013. I now have over 20 years experience of working professionally with dogs.

Experienced

I have two passions in dog training: Rescue dogs and assistance dogs.

I gained extensive experience with rescue dogs working as a behaviourist, rehomer, assessor, and staff trainer at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

I worked as a qualified trainer of assistance dogs at Canine Partners. I'm currently a qualified trainer and assessor of assistance dogs for Dog A.I.D.

I work in partnership with Brighton Dog Watch and The RSPCA to provide training and behavioural services for rehomed rescue dogs in Brighton & Hove.

I provide training and behavioural services to The Cinnamon Trust in Sussex.

I assessed the dogs of potential foster carers for Brighton & Hove City Council Fostering Service.

I instructed classes at Hammersmith Dog Training Club in London where I also successfully trained my own dogs from Bronze through to Gold standard of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme.

Qualified

I have recognised qualifications in human and animal behaviour and use science-based training methods.

Having a behavioural science degree, BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Birkbeck, University of London helps me understand what is going on at both ends of the lead.

I achieved an NVQ Level 3 in Animal Care whilst working at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Professional

I am committed to CPD (continuing profession development) and have completed many training courses, workshops, and seminars by leading behaviourists and academics.

I have completed courses in Dog Law and Dog First Aid.

I strongly believe that reward based training is the most effective and ethical training method available and am therefore a proud member of The Pet Professional Guild.

All the services I offer relate to work I have successfully undertaken in the past.

I am Enhanced DBS/CRB checked.

Personal

Rainbow Dogs is all about treating every dog and every owner as an individual.

There is no set structure or 'one size fits all'; every session is taylored to you and your dog's specific needs.

I will listen carefully to your needs in order to work out achievable solutions with you.
